Lessons from an Entrepreneur

As an entrepreneur for 25 years, I’ve learned quite a few things over the years!

If you’re an entrepreneur, you’ll know that the road to success is never a straight line, there are ups and downs and roadblocks along the way, but if you can ride it out… it’s the best thing you’ll ever do!

Remember, failure isn’t falling down, it’s not getting up again.

Some lessons I’ve learned:

  • Know what YOUR balance is – It’s different for everyone, so get clear on your boundaries and time, and make sure you work your business around it.

  • The definition of Success is what feels right for YOU (not your hubby, your mom… your friends…YOU) Get clear on what that looks like to you and use that as a measuring tool instead of others’ expectations.

  • You have to Crawl before you can Walk… and Walk before you can Run.  One step at a time…. practice patience. Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s, you don’t know what stage they are in.

  • Fear keeps you Frozen – You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward. Be BOLD.  It’s ok to be different, it’s ok to stand out… actually – it’s essential. Take one step each day to move forward and you’ll get there.

  • Your gut is always right.  It’s your head that messes things up. Trust your instincts and don’t let your ego or fear try to stop you from what you know to be true.

  • Priorities Change.  Your Path will Change.  Stay true to yourself… and go with the flow.  When you are authentic and in alignment, new opportunities will be presented to you, trust that amazing things will happen.

  • Practice Gratitude, Abundance & Compassion for yourself and others. We have everything we need inside of us…it’s just buried under the crap we tell ourselves.  Seeing the best in ourselves and each other, letting go of comparison and being thankful for what we have, brings more of what we want into our life.

  • Self Care is your number one priority every day – make time for it and don’t feel guilty when you do!  Believe that you are worth it… because you are. You are no good to your business, family, community, etc. if you’re not good to yourself first.

  • Surround yourself with people and things that inspire and motivate you, and get rid of the rest. Keep motivation and inspiration at the forefront of your mind each day.

  • Dream (dream bigger than you thought possible). Believe (that it’s possible, and that you are worthy of having it). Become (who you were meant to be… joy-filled and prosperous!)

  • and above all else, remember why you started your business in the first place, and continue to serve as best you can.
