I was even known as “The Dream Board Lady” for many years! It’s not the main focus of my business anymore, but I know how important it is, so I wanted to share some of my tips and tricks for creating a board that really works!
They are are a fun, and very powerful way to set goals and intentions
Bring you what it is you truly desire into your life buy activating the Law of Attraction
Acts as your guiding light… your GPS to your dreams.
By focusing on what it is we DO want in our life, we are better able to make decisions, recognize opportunities and feel happier and excited about possibilities.
The images, quotes and words that you put on your board work with your conscious and unconscious mind to focus on what it is you truly desire and what makes you happy so that when opportunities are presented, you’ll be better able to recognize when them.
Dream Boards can be done for specific areas in your life:
business goals
trips
health & wellness
self-esteem
your dream home…
they can also be very general, the big picture dream of your life
help you get clearer on a situation you are dealing with or a decision that you need to make
The REAL secret to creating a powerful Dream Board…
Use images that represent how you want to FEEL. It’s not about the thing you want, it’s about the feeling you have when you have it.
Let me give you an example. You think you just want a new sofa for your living room, the other one isn’t comfortable and really not big enough for everyone. So you put a picture of a sofa on your board. Simple right? Sure… but if you want it to really be effective, you need to dig a little deeper. WHY do you want that sofa? Maybe you want it because you really want a comfy place for your family to cuddle and watch movies…. dig a bit more… what does cuddling and watching movies feel like to you? Maybe it feels like love, connection and wonderful memories… which I’m sure feel really, really good. Does it make you feel warm and fuzzy inside? THAT is what you want to focus on, the sofa is just the thing… the happy, joyful feelings, that is your true desire.
The Universal Law of Attraction says that like attracts like, and the law of Karma says what you put out, you get back. So put out some great vibes and get back what you desire!
How do you create a Dream Board?
It is very simple and fun! Give yourself about 30-45 minutes, in a quiet, enjoyable space. Think about all that you desire, the feelings, the emotions, the experiences and how it will impact your life. What opportunities are available to you when you dream bigger? I encourage you to journal or write down some intentions and notes.
What you will need:
a pile of magazines
a pair of scissors
a glue stick (or tape)
coloured markers, stickers, bling… be creative
sturdy backing (like a poster board, a large sheet of paper … even a few paper bags cut open and taped together will work). You can even use an art canvas if you want. Whatever you have… use it!
When you’re ready, start flipping and clipping!
Clipping: Using your intuitive mind, (not your rational one) cut out whatever jumps out at you, piling them off to the side. Don’t worry if you don’t know why some things called out to you, just cut it out anyways. Do this until you have a pile that feels right (or you’ve run out of time or magazines!) If something catches your attention, or represents a feeling you want… keep it. (So if you desire to feel more confident each day, and you find a picture of a woman who radiates that… cut it out…when you see that image on your board, you’ll be reminded what more confidence will feel like for you… and what it will bring to your life.)
Sorting: Sort your images by size. All your big ones, medium ones and small ones. I also like to put all my words in their own pile.
Arrange: Start with your bigger pieces and start arranging them on your board. You may notice a theme that has started with your images that weren’t really what you intended, that’s ok!
Just go with the flow… your soul has been guiding you to pick what you needed to see. Don’t glue them down quite yet… play around with them and see what feels right.
Glue: Using a glue stick (don’t use liquid glue… the magazines will wrinkle up) start attaching your images onto your board. Tip… don’t put glue right to the edges of the image, you may want to lift up a corner to tuck something else in after… and they dry quickly so you won’t be able to lift it!
Embellish: Feel free to add any ‘bling’ or stickers or things that you love to your board. This is YOUR board, it needs to reflect you! I also HIGHLY encourage you to write down some affirmations, goals or intentions on your board.
Set the Intention: Turn your board over and write out what the board means to you. How it makes you feel, and what you hope to come true. Make it as detailed or general as you like, just make sure it reflects what you desire. Then put the date on it… and sign it!
Hang up your board: Find a space in your home or office where you will see it regularly. The most powerful boards are ones that you look at daily (if not several times a day) to keep you focused on your desires.
BELIEVE: that everything on your board is possible and on its way to you. Have faith & trust that what you want… wants you.
Most of all… have fun!
