Power in the Pause

There’s so much power in the pause.

A mindful break.
A check-in.
A moment of Awareness.

This week, I invite you to mindfully take time to pause throughout your day.

Just a moment with yourself to check-in.

How am I feeling? Am I on the right track? Is this right for me? What’s the next best step?

Pausing gives us space for relaxation and clarity.  Pausing isn’t simply “stopping”, it’s consciously choosing to pause, see where you are at in that moment, and gain clarity before acting.

It’s slowing down, breathing and seeing things clearer so that we can make better choices, feel calmer and not just ‘react’ to everything that is happening around us

Taking a “pause”

Self Leadership is about observing and managing oneself. I invite you to take some time to really think about these questions, and how they’re impacting your success or growth.

  1. Pausing could be counting to 3 before you reply to your bratty teen.

  2. Pausing could be sitting in your car for 5 min in peace before you enter the chaos in your home after the end of a long day.

  3. Pausing could also be simply closing your eyes and listening to a song that you love.

  4. Pausing can be meditation, yoga, or energy work… it can be as little or as long as you like.

Pausing is simply a time to let go of outer expectations and go within to find your answers.  Self Care requires you to ASK yourself what it is you truly desire, and then give it to yourself. Pausing gives you the space to do that.

This week, I encourage you to mindfully practice the power of the pause.

Be aware of your feelings and your reactions.

  • When you’re finding yourself upset, frustrated or worrying… mindfully take time to pause.

  • When you’re happy and feeling good… take time to pause.

  • When you have questions for yourself… stop and pause.

  • When you need to have a difficult conversation… take a moment to pause.

The practice of the “pause”

  • Close your eyes if you can, and breathe slowly and deeply.

  • Notice any tension in your body, and let it go.

  • Relax your shoulders, your mind, and your body.

  • Keep breathing and ask yourself…  How can this pause help me? What do I need from it? How can I be my best self after the pause?

  • Breathe… Release what no longer serves you and be open to feeling calmer and more in alignment with your true self.

Pausing offers us the opportunity to really be in the moment we are in, tuning into our breathing and how we are feeling… giving us the chance to shift our stress and frustration into calm solutions.

How will YOU practice the pause today?
